The Estates Maintenance Department is looking to recruit an Electrical Supervisor to join our dedicated team at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. This role will transfer to UHS Estates Ltd (UEL) from 1st April 2025. The job description, terms, and benefits associated with the role will not change as a result of this transfer.
The successful candidate should have:
- The ability to read and interpret drawings and documents
- Proven fault-finding skills
- Detailed technical knowledge of regulatory and industry best practices of electrical systems including Earthing
- Ability to advise electricians and supervise apprentices and assistants
Working hours are 07:30-15:30 Monday to Friday, and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in an on-call roster currently 1 day in 7. Weekday on-call requires site attendance from 14:00-22:00 and 22:00-07:30 from home. Weekend on-call requires site attendance from 07:30-15:30 (paid as overtime) and on-call from home from 15:30-07:30 hours. Call outs are paid as overtime or taken as lieu time.
UHS Estates Limited (UEL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). We are responsible for the design, construction, and ongoing maintenance of hospital buildings, as well as facilities management and the provision of essential equipment, consumables, and materials.
We are looking for the successful candidate to possess the following:
- Provide supervision to the team, issue work instructions, manage staff, and provide technical support to the team.
- Relevant knowledge and experience in an Electrical Engineering Field, such as Electrical Systems up to 415V AC, IET Wiring Regulations, Building Services, Health Care Environment, and Knowledge of HTM06-02/06-03.
Qualifications / training required:
- Time served apprenticeship from a recognised body (CITB, City and Guilds, National Vocational Qualification, JIB, Armed Services) or equivalent in an Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Services discipline.
- Qualifications in relevant subjects to an HNC/HND level, OR equivalent level (HNC) of knowledge and practical experience achieved through experience in a hospital or similar environment.
- Expert specialist trained in electrical/mechanical services, systems, and equipment; involving fault-finding, repair, inspection, and commissioning in electrical and mechanical plant and systems.
- Vocational qualifications, following training/courses to satisfy the Trust’s ever-expanding highly complex nature of equipment.
- Member of registered/professional bodies such as the IHEEM, IMechE, CISBE for the jobholder’s specialist field.
- C&G 2391 Testing and Inspection 18th edition of the IEE regulations.
- Competent Person Sterilisation, Competent Person Washer/Disinfectors, Competent Person Confined spaces, Competent Person Steam, Competent Person Medical Gas, Competent Person Water Hygiene, AP LV as per HTM 06-02.
Previous or relevant experience necessary:
- Sound trade working knowledge
- Relevant experience within a national health service environment or similar government organisation
Aptitudes and skills required:
- Up to date experience and knowledge of regulations, statutory requirements, and standards, appropriate within the building engineering services environment.
Special requirements of the post:
- Holds a current driving licence
- Perform manual tasks such as lifting and working at height
- Live within 60 minutes travel time for out of hours response to the hospital.
