This is an exciting new role working with a team of healthcare professionals within the pulmonary function and sleep apnoea service in the beautiful setting of the South West of England in the coastal City of Plymouth. The role offers opportunity to develop skills and put your own skills to the test providing a range of diagnostics tests using physiological measures and support patients with the treatment of sleep apnoea using CPAP. The service is growing across multiple sites and is based in the newly built CDC in central Plymouth near the historic Barbican.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, perform and report PFTs, field exercise testing, provocation testing, FeNO, reversibility studies, sleep studies and overnight sleep apnoea screening.
  • Provide CPAP assessment, initiation and remote monitoring of patients.
  • Support manager with service development, educational commitments and clinical audit processes.
  • Obtain patient history and communicate test requirements to patients and participants.
  • Interpret and report findings verbally and in written form to referring medical team and other professionals.
  • Maintain equipment calibration, quality assurance and quality control procedures; report any faults.
  • Assist junior staff and support service provision at UHP.
  • Be competent in basic life support.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience working within a respiratory & sleep physiological measures unit.
  • ARTP exam and registration.
  • Competent in performing full PFTs, field exercise testing, provocation testing and ABG/CBG.
  • Knowledge of respiratory muscle function testing and respiratory muscle assessment.
  • Experience in scoring sleep studies and CPAP therapy.
  • Desirable: HCPC registration, AHCS registration, ABG/CBG performance, bronchial provocation testing.

Person Specification:

  • Essential: Proven knowledge of respiratory and sleep physiology, ability to perform and report lung function tests, scoring of sleep studies, band 5 respiratory physiologist experience.
  • Desirable: Respiratory muscle function testing, experience in respiratory/sleep physiology.
