Job Summary
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Senior Support Pharmacist for Healthcare of Older People based at Good Hope Hospital. This early‑career role provides an opportunity to develop clinical expertise and leadership within a forward‑thinking pharmacy team, delivering specialist clinical pharmacy services on the wards, mentoring and supervision, and contributing to education and training programmes.
Key Responsibilities
Your day‑to‑day responsibilities will include prescription screening, medicines reconciliation, therapeutic drug monitoring, and contributing to audit, research, and service development. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, provide specialist clinical pharmacy services to older people wards, supervise junior and trainee pharmacists, and support education and training for pharmacy, nursing, and medical colleagues.
Professional Development
You will have protected learning time for postgraduate clinical pharmacy training, non‑medical prescribing, and independent prescribing qualification. Access to trust‑wide wellbeing initiatives and staff networks is also provided.
Qualifications
- Vocational Master’s degree in pharmacy (or equivalent qualification)
- Completed or near completion (within the next 6 months) of a postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification
- Willing to work towards a non‑medical prescribing qualification
- Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
Experience
- Post‑registration work experience as a pharmacist in hospital pharmacy, covering a range of specialties, or equivalent knowledge
- Previous participation in a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated commitment to providing high‑quality pharmaceutical care
- Experience of teaching or presenting to other healthcare professionals or patients
- Commitment to own Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Relevant clinical knowledge in hospital pharmacy
- Knowledge of national initiatives and guidelines (e.g., NICE, NSF)
- Knowledge of resources to answer Medicines Information queries
- Ability to work with drug budget information
- Good knowledge of hospital clinical pharmacy and current issues

Other Details
Good Hope Hospital is well connected by public transport. The role is open to pharmacists who have completed 2–3 early‑career rotations and are working towards a clinical diploma or the RPS Newly Qualified Pharmacist Pathway. Applicants with 12 months post‑registration hospital experience may be appointed under Annex 21 (75 % of Band 7 maximum), progressing to full Band 7 upon meeting milestones.
Benefits and Working Conditions
Band 7 – Salary £49,387.00 to £56,515.00 yearly.
