Applications are invited for a full‑time Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist to meet the needs of the Neurophysiology Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The successful applicant will have access to a comprehensive range of equipment to provide routine and specialist diagnostic studies, including nerve conduction studies (NCS), electromyography (EMG), EEG, and other neurophysiological investigations.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
- Leadership & Governance: Ensures service delivery by the department is within the resources available. Helps manage demand and prioritises on the basis of clinical need. Demonstrates excellence in patient quality care. Cover for consultant colleagues during leave to maintain a good service.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Willing to join an established collaborative department involving neurology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics and other colleagues to provide a comprehensive and cohesive service. Contribute to design and implementation of neurophysiology services delivering high quality patient care. Have excellent report‑writing skills and be able to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues. Develop and maintain effective networks within the region to enable best practice to be identified and implemented by the Trust. Have well‑developed listening and communication skills and be able to interact effectively with a wide range of clinicians, managers and professionals both within and outside the Trust.
- Planned Activities: Be involved with the implementation of new developments in clinical neurophysiology. Contribute to discussions on future development of clinical neurophysiology. Support the development of a culture of continuous improvement. Effectively plan, communicate and execute changes ensuring engagement and involvement. Support the department in achieving its financial and performance targets. Work flexibly, including off‑site working and a hybrid model of home and onsite working.
The department offers routine evoked potentials, NCS/EMG, specialist EMG techniques, and advanced investigations such as EEG, ambulatory EEG, video telemetry, invasive intracranial recording, MSLT, intra‑operative corticography, spinal cord monitoring and epilepsy multidisciplinary assessment.
Qualifications: Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (or within six months of receiving a Certificate of Completion of Training in Clinical Neurophysiology). Evidence of continuing professional development, including CME. Disclosure and Barring Service check. UK professional registration.
