Lecturer in Film (Cinematography) in Farnham

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Film (Cinematography) to join our outstanding team of educators, practitioners and researchers. The role will be based at the Farnham campus in Surrey and will report directly to the Programme Director for Film. UCA is seeking to recruit a dynamic and innovative educator with specialist expertise in cinematography. We are looking for a candidate who will ideally have significant professional experience within the film or television industries together with, experience of teaching in higher education, including curriculum development aligned with contemporary professional practice.

You will play a key role in delivering teaching across the BA (Hons) Film Production and MA Filmmaking programmes, while also contributing to related courses across the School where appropriate. Alongside teaching, you will coordinate elements of the cinematography curriculum, supporting sessional staff, organising workshops, study visits and specialist learning activities, coordinating assessment, and helping students develop the professional knowledge, confidence and technical expertise required for careers in the screen industries.

As Lecturer in Film (Cinematography), you will have proven knowledge and experience of camera, lighting and visual storytelling. You will be confident teaching both the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking, supporting students in developing professional production skills alongside a strong understanding of cinematic language. Experience of current digital production technologies, contemporary workflows and collaborative production practice is essential. You will have a good honours degree, ideally supported by a postgraduate qualification, together with significant professional experience and an up-to-date understanding of contemporary developments in filmmaking, cinematography and the wider creative industries. As part of the academic team, you will work collaboratively with colleagues across Film and the wider School to ensure an outstanding student experience, contributing to an inclusive, supportive and professionally focused learning environment that encourages creativity, technical excellence and critical enquiry.
