Do you enjoy fixing IT problems and helping people? We're looking for a friendly and proactive IT Desktop Support Officer to join our Information and Digital Services (IDS) team. This role is a 2nd line, hands-on, customer-facing, campus-based role which plays a key part in keeping the University's digital services running smoothly for staff, students and visitors. The role reports to the Campus IDS & Service Desk Manager, forming part of the wider End-User Computing team. You will respond to incidents and requests, offer advice and help to improve the overall experience of using technology within the University. If you enjoy troubleshooting, building relationships, and variety in your work, then this role could be for you.
A Typical Day
- Reviewing and prioritising calls through the IT Service Desk tool.
- Providing in person deskside and remote support for staff.
- Troubleshooting hardware and software problems.
- Supporting account and device management through deployment tools and M365.
- Responding to cyber security incidents such as malware or phishing.
- Installing and configuring computers for staff and studio spaces.
What are we looking for?
- 2 years experience in an IT support role with experience of using a Service Desk platform, Microsoft 365 administration tools and deployment software.
- Strong Windows OS troubleshooting skills and some exposure to supporting macOS devices.
- Confidence with face to face, and remote IT support with a proactive, problem-solving approach and strong communication skills.
- Able to work autonomously and proactively, in a team-oriented environment in which knowledge sharing and collaboration are key.
- Enjoys helping people and takes pride in delivering great service.
The successful candidate must be able to commute to Farnham campus, full time Monday to Friday 9.00AM - 5.15PM. This is a fully onsite role.
