We are looking for a Head of Operations to coordinate cross-team activity including finance and budgeting, HR processes, and team culture and wellbeing. About the roleThe Head of Operations is a key role, that helps and enables leaders and colleagues across all teams in VPEE to work effectively.
An expert in financial management, HR operations, you will support and train managers in VPEE on UCL policy and best practices in: staff recruitment, effective onboarding, people processes, and effective appraisal and development conversations.
You will ensure a best in sector approach is in place for inducting new staff and introduce tools and activity to measure and increase colleague engagement.
From a finance perspective, you will work with the Director of Operations, VPEE budget holders and Finance Business Partner, to coordinate planning and information gathering for UCL's annual budgeting and reforecasting processes.
You will also assist colleagues with procurement processes and develop training and information sessions on Finance processes and systems. Please note, this role is offered on a full-time basis (part-time applications of a minimum of 0.8 FTE would be considered), with hybrid working available

You will understand the opportunities and challenges facing higher education and be able to apply your operational expertise effectively within a university setting. You will have experience of developing budgets, monitoring financial performance and using financial and people data to inform strategic decision-making.
You will be confident working with senior colleagues and professional services teams to ensure resources are used effectively and organisational priorities are delivered. You will bring experience of managing change and improving processes, systems and ways of working in support of organisational objectives.
You will be comfortable working across a complex organisation, managing competing priorities and bringing together different perspectives to achieve shared outcomes. You will be an experienced people leader who can motivate and develop colleagues and work effectively through both direct and matrix management.
You will build strong, trusted relationships with senior colleagues and a diverse range of stakeholders, using your influencing and relationship management skills to achieve positive outcomes. Excellent communication skills are essential, including the ability to present complex information clearly to a wide range of audiences.
You will be able to make sense of complex issues, including where information is incomplete, and use your judgement to establish priorities and respond effectively to changing demands. You will bring resilience, adaptability and a commitment to continuous improvement, alongside a genuine interest in delivering excellent professional services.

Experience of analysing and presenting data to support evidence-based decision-making and proactive problem-solving would also be desirable.
