Division of Surgery & Interventional Science at University College London is inviting applications for a 36-month, full-time, fixed-term position as a Doctoral Candidate (DC) in the MS-RADAM project. This project, funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) programme, aims to advance the understanding of key radiation-induced biodamage phenomena with applications in particle therapy, radiotherapy, and radioprotection.

The research programme combines state-of-the-art computational multiscale modelling and thorough validation using advanced experimental techniques. The DC12 research project focuses on the experimental validation of nanoparticle properties and microdistributions in radiosensitisation phenomena in cells.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Understanding how nanoparticle properties and intracellular location impact radiation damage.
  • Studying the potential of nanoparticles to boost radiotherapy tumour damage while sparing healthy tissue.
  • Mapping nanoparticle intracellular microdistribution and elucidating mechanisms of radiosensitisation.
  • Quantifying biological effects and investigating the utilisation of metallic nanoparticles for clinical radiotherapy.

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in Biological/Life Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, or Biomedical Science/Engineering.
  • Excellent English language skills (both spoken and written).
  • Ability to travel internationally and work in an international environment.
  • Highly motivated and reliable, able to meet strict deadlines.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Must not have already earned a doctoral degree.
  • Must not have lived or worked in the UK for more than 12 months in the 36 months prior to the recruitment date.
  • Must meet all admission requirements for the PhD programme at University College London.
  • Willingness to undertake international mobility during the project implementation.
