About us
The Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Engineering Solutions for Antimicrobial Resistance, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) was launched in 2025 with the aim of training the next generation of industry, public-sector, and academic leaders to engineer and coordinate solutions for the challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The Centre provides a unique cohort experience to its students, offering 4-year PhD studentships. The Centre is a collaboration between the UCL Faculties of Engineering Sciences, Mathematical and Physical Sciences and Life and Medical Sciences, and will be hosted by the London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN).
The London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN) is an interdisciplinary enterprise between University College London, King’s College London and Imperial College London. In bringing together world-class infrastructure and leading nanotechnology research activities, the Centre aims to attain the critical mass to compete with the best facilities abroad. The LCN has strong relationships with the broader nanotechnology and commercial communities and is involved in much major collaboration. As the world’s only such facility to be located in the heart of a metropolis, the LCN has superb access to corporate, investment and industrial partners. It is at the forefront of training in nanotechnology and has a strong media presence aimed at educating the public and bringing transparency to this emerging science.
About the role
The postholder will play a key role in the operational management and administration of the Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Engineering Solutions for Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), with primary responsibility for the programme and additional responsibility for providing cover across other LCN CDT teams. The role will ensure the effective delivery of postgraduate research activities and support an excellent student experience throughout the student lifecycle.
Working closely with the CDT Director, CDT Manager, CDT Partnerships Manager, CDT Administrator and academic colleagues, the postholder will coordinate a broad range of activities relating to postgraduate research administration, student recruitment and progression, and event and training delivery.
The role will act as a key point of contact for students, supervisors, academic staff and professional services colleagues, providing advice and guidance on CDT processes and procedures and ensuring that activities are delivered efficiently and in accordance with UCL and funder requirements.
The postholder will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of professional services activities across the CDT and supervising the work of the CDT Administrator, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, efficient and responsive administrative service. They will oversee the implementation of established procedures, contribute to process improvement activities, and support compliance with UCL, Faculty and funder requirements.
About you
You will be educated to degree level or equivalent with experience of working in higher education in a student facing role. You will have experience of student administration, financial administration, event planning and data analysis.
The role requires excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills, together with the ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and build effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Experience of supervising or coordinating the work of others and a commitment to delivering an excellent service are also essential.
