About us
UCL was founded 200 years ago to challenge convention, and Disagreeing Well is how we carry those values into the future. This flagship cross-institutional programme, led by Professor Dame Hazel Genn, equips students, staff and wider communities with the confidence and skills to engage with different views constructively, respectfully and with curiosity. Based in the Office of the President and Provost, you will join a collaborative team working on one of the defining challenges of our time: how diverse societies keep up dialogue, trust and understanding amid profound differences of opinion.
About the role
As Programme Manager, you will provide high-level programme management and executive support to Dame Hazel as Chair of the Disagreeing Well Programme Board, covering governance and secretariat, delivery, risk and budget management, stakeholder engagement, and briefings that inform decisions at the highest level. You will work with real independence and trust across a matrix of academic leads and senior stakeholders, building the programme’s infrastructure and evidence of impact and helping shape its next phase as part of the UCL200 legacy. Some weeks will be fast and demanding, others slower as longer-term initiatives develop, and you will enjoy both. This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) post, based at our Bloomsbury campus in London with some remote working.
Salary: £57,570 - £67,776 per annum pro rata, including London Allowance
Contract: fixed-term until 30 July 2028
Flexible working: This role is 0.5 FTE. We will consider part-time/full-time and flexible working arrangements requests as long as it is not affecting delivery.
About you
You enjoy complexity, have a keen eye for detail and can keep sight of the bigger picture. You will bring:
- Demonstrated expertise in supporting programme governance, including forward planning, risk registers, action trackers, high-quality papers and accurate minutes
- A proactive approach to your work: you anticipate needs rather than waiting for instructions, keep a constant record of actions and deadlines, flag what is outstanding and what requires the Chair’s input, and brief senior colleagues early on forthcoming issues, decisions and deadlines
- A track record of supporting a senior leader, managing competing priorities with calm success in delivering cross-institutional projects within a matrix structure, and in establishing new systems and processes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the discretion to handle sensitive matters
- A genuine interest in constructive disagreement and public discourse, and in how a university is run at senior level
In this role you will make sure governance runs smoothly, activity is tracked and reported, and the Chair and Board are always well briefed. You will be the person who knows what is happening, what needs doing and what is coming next, and who makes sure the Chair knows it too, in good time.
