Laboratory Manager in London

This full-time (1 FTE) post is available immediately within the UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science (ICS) and is available for a 1-year secondment. The Institute is based across several sites and currently operates five wet laboratories on the Bloomsbury campus. The post holder will provide comprehensive technical and administrative support to ensure the effective day-to-day operation of these laboratories, supporting researchers and maintaining a safe, efficient and well-organised laboratory environment.

The post holder will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operational management of the Institute's laboratory facilities across the UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science (ICS). The role is responsible for ensuring laboratory infrastructure, equipment and services are maintained to the highest standards, enabling world-class research while ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, UCL policies and regulatory requirements. The post holder will provide operational, technical and administrative leadership across the laboratories, coordinate shared resources and procurement activities, oversee equipment maintenance and service contracts, and develop effective working relationships with academic, research and professional services staff. Acting as the primary contact for laboratory operations and health and safety matters, the post holder will work closely with laboratory leads, the ICS Health and Safety Committee and central UCL teams to deliver an efficient, safe and well-supported research environment.

The post-holder must have a degree (or equivalent professional qualification) in Biomedical Sciences, Biological Sciences or another relevant scientific discipline. Significant experience managing research laboratory facilities within a biomedical or scientific research environment is required as well as sufficient scientific knowledge and experience to provide advice on the effective organisation and management of research laboratories. Additionally, the post-holder will have up-to-date knowledge of legislation and regulatory requirements governing research laboratories, including health and safety, COSHH, biological safety and related laboratory regulations. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work both collaboratively as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision are also required.
