The location, scale, variety and complexity of the estate are unparalleled in the sector, including world-leading research, teaching, offices and student accommodation within our Bloomsbury and UCL East campus, at Stratford. Together, Campus Experience and Infrastructure and Estates Development (CE&I and ED) is responsible for managing all aspects of the UCL estate from the strategic to the operational, including property asset management, master-planning, capital projects and seamless end to end operational support. The function comprises approximately 350 facilities management, construction and property professionals, project managers and customer facing operational colleagues. This key activity supports the student and campus experience for our 47,000 students and 13,000 staff across our sites. About the role We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Property and Asset Management to join our leadership team based in central London. In this strategic role, you will oversee the full lifecycle of property and asset management, ensuring optimal performance, value enhancement, and operational excellence across our diverse portfolio. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of market trends, a proven track record in property management and strong leadership skills. The main purpose of the role is as follows… Optimise all aspects of UCL’s property (academic and student accommodation), asset management and space strategy across the multi-faceted portfolio. As a key member of the Estates senior leadership team, take active responsibility for stakeholder management (staff and students), improving campus experience, customer-centricity and delivery of our wide range of services. To include opportunities for continual improvement around project delivery. Working closely with UCL Finance, pro-actively manage, and demonstrate value from the property budget. Leading, developing, and coordinating a high performing professional team – setting direction, proactively managing performance, and shaping the function to align with other Estates functions particularly the Capital Programme (£800M projects to 26/27) Promote a customer focused, constructively challenging, responsive and adaptable service to drive value and deliver a wide range of property projects. Lead the development and implementation plan for the UCL Estates 2050 Vision (currently under development) having regard to agreed Institutional, Divisional and Faculty priorities. Working collaboratively across the University, with staff and students, develop and implement short, and longer-term space management principles and policies for diverse space types. Work with the Estates Performance and Programme management team to deliver and track relevant key performance indicators. Drive preparation, presentation and endorsement of high-quality business cases through Estates and University governance processes to deliver enhancements to the campus. About you Essential requirements of the role are as follows… The post requires the director-level experience necessary to provide professional, technical and strategic advice at a senior management level within Estates and across UCL A degree level education plus a post graduate management qualification. Relevant high level technical knowledge and experience of space strategy and property management. High level experience in asset management in a comparable scale/complex organisation to include e.g. portfolio management. property acquisitions and disposals, development, leasehold and freehold contract negotiations, rent reviews etc. Experience of leading space and workplace management strategy development and execution across a large scale, diverse and complex estate portfolio. Extensive people development, team leadership and management experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proactive, self-motivated, committed and enthusiastic. A creative person with a positive approach to finding innovative solutions. A high degree of integrity and ability to operate in a complex environment. Experience of managing a team, including development of team members. Desirable requirements are as follows… Substantial space management, project management and change management experience. Experience of capital project scoping, procurement, cost management and delivery.
