This is a fantastic opportunity to complete a Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship Standard whilst working for UCL as an Apprentice Administrator.

The UCL Centre for Advanced Research Computing (ARC) is UCL’s new institute for infrastructure and innovation in digital research – the supercomputers, datasets, software, and people that make computational science and digital scholarship possible.

The Academic Programmes Office (APO) is the largest professional service support team at the IOE. The APO provides student and programme support for all accredited academic programmes, as well as for all research student activity. Under the guidance of the Director of Education and Student Support, the teams are responsible for the academic quality of programmes, timetabling, placement management, adherence to internal and external requirements, production of statistics and returns for internal use and for presentation to external parties.

Main purpose of the job: As an Apprenticeship this role will allow you to develop a wide range of skills that support UCL’s digital research. You will be part of ARC’s community of staff scientists and research technology professionals, delivering the services and systems which make data and compute-intensive research possible. You will work within your team to support a wide portfolio of responsibilities.

As an Apprentice Business Administration you will:

  • Support projects or services working collaboratively with both research technology professionals and academic communities to enable them to achieve their research, innovation and/or teaching ambitions.
  • Assist with the creation of new knowledge and/or best practice of operational and research activity.
  • Work with and support the management through a defined portfolio of responsibilities, a mixture of service delivery.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Be an active citizen of the department and the university, contributing to and helping to organise discussions, build relationships, and share knowledge with colleagues.
  • Support the development of ARC’s operational projects.
  • Assist the business needs of the department.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of ARC’s operations, services or projects e.g. coordination and facilitation of meetings and events, and community engagement activities.
  • Develop an awareness of research computing activities across UCL to ensure smooth engagement of ARC’s events.
  • Contribute to promoting the department’s activities and positive impact to build ARC’s profile in UCL.
  • Support the development of internal and external documentation and public facing media.
  • Engage with colleagues across UCL to ensure the smooth functioning of our activities.

General:

  • Follow and actively promote the UCL Ways of Working.
  • Take responsibility to carry out duties in a way that embodies UCL's environmental and social sustainability values, actively supporting UCL's Sustainability Strategy, policies and objectives within the remit of their role.
  • Carry out any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager.

  • UCL offers hybrid working where appropriate and the successful applicant may normally work remotely for up to 80% of the week if they wish.

Training Outcome: Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the post holder will be in a strong position to apply for full employment at UCL.
