We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Service Manager at UCLH in our Transport Department. This role requires a dynamic and collaborative individual to support our transport teams, including the patient assessment & booking team, front of house team, and our internal goods delivery team. The role will act as a deputy to the Transport Operational Manager and is critical in supporting the department to run smoothly and efficiently.

You should possess current experience in transport services alongside sound leadership skills, excellent analytical, data interrogation, reporting and communication and negotiation skills, an ability to work effectively across teams and be able to manage your time effectively in a constantly changing environment.

You will be supported directly by the Transport Operational Manager in the first instance. We are committed to providing ongoing support, training and development and opportunities to learn and there is scope to develop, contribute and lead on various service initiatives and developments.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have responsibility for supporting the Operational Manager and transport teams to ensure that services are efficiently and effectively run within the transport department. This will be achieved through excellent human resource, financial and performance management, and leadership to achieve improvement in process and outcomes with support of the divisional management team.

The post holder will be responsible for all reporting requests and analysis providing monthly and ad hoc reports as required against a range of operational datasets. The role will also be critical in supporting the department in meeting its quality and compliance objectives including but not limited to complaints responses, incident reporting and investigation as well as policy and financial compliance.

Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree and/or an appropriate professional qualification or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • Masters level qualification or equivalent specialist knowledge acquired by experience

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Previous managerial experience in a large and complex organisation preferably within the NHS
  • Proven experience analysing and interpreting performance data
  • A proven record of success in managing change while also developing and maintaining high standards of quality.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working in a busy transport service/setting

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to liaise, negotiate and influence effectively at Divisional management and all senior levels.
  • Quality focussed with an innovative approach and the ability to solve complex problems
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office packages
  • Evidence of political awareness and sensitivity to the high profile of the Trust
