An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time NHS appointment at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) to develop new pathways of care for patients living with cancer in various settings including emergency, acute assessment, elective day care, and clinics.
The aim of this post is to transfer the majority of work from the emergency department and inpatient settings to the day care environment within the UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre. The post holder will also gain management experience through contributing to the ongoing improvement of the safe delivery of outpatient therapies. The role involves review and audit of the evolving service.
This position is suitable for a senior trainee (ST3+ level) intending to pursue an academic or NHS oncology career. The post holder will report to the Lead Clinicians for Chemotherapy and Acute Oncology at UCH. Eligibility for full GMC Registration and NHS experience are essential. MRCP or equivalent is desirable, as is specialist training in clinical or medical oncology with chemotherapy delivery experience. Clinical sessions will be based in the cancer centre day unit, clinics, and inpatient wards/emergency department, with some patient consultations at other Trust locations.
The post provides education and training opportunities comparable to those for trainees, including study leave benefits.
Responsibilities include providing assessment, triage, and treatment plans for unwell oncology patients, and conducting daily ward rounds with the Acute Oncology team for patients admitted within 24 hours or referred with suspected cancer diagnoses.
