As part of the NCL Integrated Care System (ICS) and hosted by UCLH, we are committed to delivering seamless, patient-centred care. In this role, you will manage a dynamic portfolio of initiatives focused on strengthening and enhancing the cancer workforce across NCL and beyond. These projects are integral to improving the quality of care and outcomes for cancer patients, positioning you at the forefront of impactful, patient-centred advancements.
Your role will involve strategic oversight and hands-on execution, blending the art of leadership with the science of project management. You’ll foster meaningful relationships with stakeholders across the cancer system, balancing flexible home and office-based working with essential face-to-face interactions to build sustainable professional networks.
Main duties of the job
As Senior Project Manager (Band 8a), you’ll take the reins on two transformative projects that are shaping the future of cancer care for both patients and professionals.
- The London Cancer Clinical Nurse (CNS) Specialist Development Project
Play a pivotal role in advancing the London Cancer CNS Development Project, led by NCL CA, to strengthen and expand the pipeline of senior Cancer CNSs. With five CNS Cancer Development Leads (CDLs) already driving change across London’s Integrated Care System areas through teaching, observation, coaching, and reflective techniques, this project is entering a critical implementation phase. Taking over from the current postholder on maternity leave, you’ll provide vital project support to London’s Cancer Alliance and the CDLs. Your leadership will ensure rigorous evaluation, monitoring, and ongoing success, building on a solid foundation to empower and innovate the CNS workforce. - The ACCEND project across NCL
You will also lead the implementation of the ACCEND (Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Development) programme across NCL. This visionary initiative focuses on supporting the non-medical workforce, translating strategic aims into actionable plans. Partnering with the programme manager, you’ll operationalise the ACCEND framework across NCL cancer teams, contributing to the Cancer Workforce Programme’s goals.

Essential criteria
- Educated to a Masters degree or significant equivalent experience
- Project-management qualification or significant equivalent experience
- Knowledge and understanding of a range of issues in cancer, nursing, and/or education
- Knowledge and experience of project management using tools such as PRINCE 2, MSP, etc.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge and understanding of cancer pathways, imaging services and/or primary care
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience of running large scale projects/ programmes in a large, complex organisation or network/system
- Successful record of managing and implementing substantial service transformation and organisational change projects
- Significant experience of working with partners and stakeholders in delivering sensitive changes to services.
- Experience of working closely with stakeholders to inform and implement initiatives.
- A proven success in business planning and in the development and effective implementation of large scale strategic plans
- Experience of strategic planning and leading decision making in prioritisation of complex work flows
Desirable criteria
- Experience of effective financial management
- Experience of management within the NHS
