This is an exciting opportunity to join the prestigious full-time two-year Training Course at UCLH in partnership with University College London (UCL) to develop academic and professional skills in Obstetric Ultrasound and Fetal Medicine.
As a supervised trainee, you will work in the Ultrasound Screening Unit (USU) at the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Wing, scanning pregnant women at 11-14 weeks gestation, performing anomaly scans and fetal well-being assessments. The role is split over two years: the first year you will be a “junior” trainee, and upon successful completion of competency training you will progress to a “senior” position in year two, where you will also train the junior trainees.
During the first year, you will provide the routine ultrasound antenatal assessment in all three trimesters. In the second year you will continue scanning in the USU and will also be involved in training and caring for patients in fetal medicine and other specialist clinics. Clinical competencies are reviewed throughout the course. There are opportunities for training and development in the Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit, the Antenatal Clinic and the Labour Ward.
Training and Qualifications
Applicants must apply to the associated Master (MSc) programme in Obstetric Ultrasound and Fetal Medicine; employment at UCLH and enrolment in the MSc are corequisites. You will be responsible for paying your tuition fees for the duration of the course. Employment at UCLH is based on compliance with the ongoing MSc programme; data sharing between UCL and UCLH will occur.
Time dedicated for education, training and research will be included in the daytime working pattern of 37.5 hours per week; study time outside of employment hours will be required.
Additional Details
Daily teaching sessions will be held in the form of ultrasound and fetal medicine case discussions. A certificate of training will be provided to all successful trainees at the end of the Fellowship in association with the achievement of the higher MSc degree. You will be entitled to apply for a free ISUOG (International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology) trainee membership for two years.
