We are seeking an experienced nurse to join our central London teaching hospital as a Band 6 Paediatric Deputy Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department. This is a prime opportunity for an enthusiastic Paediatric Emergency Nurse to be part of one of the UK's largest and most successful Foundation Trusts, renowned internationally for innovation. Our £21.7 million Emergency Department redevelopment has expanded Majors and Rapid Assessment Treatment bays, enhancing services for over 142,000 patients annually.

Key Responsibilities

  • Professional Conduct: Work according to the NMC Code and relevant guidelines as a named nurse, ensuring high standards of patient care, assessing nursing and health education needs, and managing care programmes, including discharge planning.
  • Ward Management: Act as a deputy for ward organisation and management, developing skills in ward/department management and providing leadership in the absence of the senior sister/charge nurse.
  • Strategy Implementation: Promote and implement UCLH Nursing & Midwifery strategy and Core Standards, contributing to the Trust’s “Top 10” Objectives.
  • Quality Initiatives: Develop and implement Audit, Quality, and Risk Management initiatives.
  • Teaching and Mentoring: Teach, facilitate, mentor, and precept student nurses, participating in clinical supervision programmes.
  • Additionally: When in charge, you will be responsible for ensuring the management and supervision of the nursing staff within the ED during your shift in partnership with the Consultant in Charge of the department. You will assist Senior Nurse and Charge Nurses in leading the nursing staff to ensure quality of care and meet performance against the Care Quality Indicators (CQI) for Emergency Services. Assist in ensuring the educational needs of the ED are met. In the event of a major incident (MAJAX) you will assist in the co‑ordination of the ED response.

All positions require internal rotation to night duty and pro‑rata weekends.
