We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and skilled radiographer to join our team in Neuroradiology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. It’s a great opportunity to work in MRI. We expect a patient‑centred approach, effective communication skills, and good teaching abilities needed for mentorship of junior staff.
The department offers interventional MRI, 3T and 1.5T MRI, CT, angiography and plain film. We have recently replaced one of our four 3T MRI scanners with a new Siemens Vida, and in 2027 will open a new MRI scanning facility with four Siemens CIMA‑X scanners and one Vida MRI scanner. Participation in an extended working day, weekend and out of hours service is essential.
Key Responsibilities- Organise workload and supervise junior staff for a designated modality on a rotational basis, providing ongoing tuition and mentoring.
- Support and deputise for superintendent radiographers when required.
- Coordinate with other modalities to maximise room utilisation, prioritise patients and ensure optimal efficiency and service quality, recording all data inputs on PACS and EHRs accurately.
- Ensure safety of patients, staff and visitors to the Neuroradiology Department.
- Maintain a high standard of patient care and participate in monitoring of standards.
- Participate and lead in departmental and divisional activities such as Health and Safety, Audit, Research, Clinical Governance and investigation of adverse incidents and complaints.
- Produce high quality images, adapting technique to meet patient needs and keep radiation dose as low as reasonably practicable.
- Undertake comprehensive assessment and appropriate examination of patients, using advanced investigative and analytical skills to determine best imaging options.
- Liaise with referrers regarding clarification of the most clinically appropriate imaging examination.
- Work according to IRR (17)/IR(ME)R 2017 legislation and Local Rules for Radiation Protection and MRI safety.
- Undertake complex neuroimaging techniques.
- Provide optimum level of service with an unpredictable workload.
- Assess images post‑examination, ensuring any necessary additional imaging is undertaken in a single patient attendance where possible.
- Expedite reporting of abnormal findings that affect patient management.
- Operate independently, taking legal responsibility and accountability for all aspects of work.
- Use equipment correctly, report faults appropriately, and remove from use if required.
- Lead clinical audit and appraise junior staff, participating in recruitment.
High motivation and skill in radiography, with current competence in MRI work.
