University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting an experienced, professionally registered Social Worker to join the Lighthouse team – the UK’s first Child’s House – based in Camden and serving North Central London. The role supports children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse through multidisciplinary, trauma‑informed interventions, advocacy and coordinated care.
Responsibilities
- Act as the lead practitioner for each child, offering steady support throughout recovery and ensuring the child’s voice guides every stage.
- Review referrals, provide safeguarding oversight and ensure concerns are promptly escalated to the Consultant Social Worker.
- Serve as the key point of coordination for children, young people and families, fostering collaboration within families and partner agencies.
- Manage a busy, complex caseload with autonomy, meeting competing deadlines and using time efficiently.
- Identify obstacles, resolve problems and act as the main point of contact to support the child, young person and their safe family members.
- Ensure children, young people and families have clear, ongoing access to information about the criminal justice process, social care pathways and the roles of the multidisciplinary team.
- Provide advice and support to help families make informed decisions, ensuring they understand their rights throughout involvement with the service.
- Participate in multidisciplinary assessments and contribute to care planning, ensuring coordinated, trauma‑informed responses.
- Develop, review and recommend safety plans that align with safeguarding legislation, pan‑London procedures and best practice.
- Support families in overcoming barriers that may prevent access to recommended services and facilitate smooth transitions into community‑based provision.
- Use specialist knowledge of child sexual abuse and trauma to deliver direct interventions that assess needs, strengthen resilience and promote recovery for children and their carers.
- Offer expertise on child sexual abuse issues, collaborating with community partners and engaging in joint planning, reviews and coordinated interventions with multidisciplinary colleagues.
Qualifications
- Professionally registered Social Worker.
- Substantial experience safeguarding and direct work with children and families.
- Sound knowledge of trauma‑informed practice.
- Ability to thrive in a busy, emotionally demanding environment, valuing reflective supervision, psychological safety and effective partnership working.
