We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and talented Assistant General Manager to join the Oncology service. The successful candidate will have strong operational management experience and will be expected to learn and develop within the role while providing operational leadership for the Oncology department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be accountable for nationally set patient access targets – including all related cancer waiting time standards and RTT.
  • Operationally manage clinical and administrative services within the Division, including direct staff management and delegated budgetary control.
  • Lead performance management, recruitment, retention, staff satisfaction and workforce planning.
  • Ensure the division meets both divisional and strategic corporate objectives and deliver projects within tight time scales.
  • Maintain thorough clinical governance, respond to complaints, incidents, never events and legal matters.
  • Support the oncology inpatient and outpatient services across all adult tumour groups, including specialised services.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day running of the service, effective budget management, workforce, performance and service improvements.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, lead service developments, data management and staff management.
  • Build and foster relationships with stakeholders across the sector.

Key Qualifications & Experience

  • Substantial experience in both strategic and operational healthcare management.
  • Track record of managing RTT and cancer waiting times.
  • Knowledge of outpatient and diagnostic management.
  • Strong values aligned with UCLH Trust values.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and people management skills.
  • Proven ability to deliver against challenging performance and finance targets.
  • Effective problem‑solving abilities and team‑working skills.
  • Experience working closely with multidisciplinary teams and leading service developments.
