A vacancy at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We have an exciting new opportunity to become UCLH’s Undergraduate Medical Education Fellow in Acute Medicine from August 2026. Ideal candidates are doctors training in any medical specialty that includes a general internal medicine component who are seeking an out‑of‑programme experience, or doctors looking for opportunities before entering higher specialty training. The post offers a unique balance of clinical practice and protected time to develop as a medical educator within one of the UK’s most dynamic acute trusts.
The post holder will direct the training programme for medical students attached to acute medicine and will undergo training to deliver teaching on the medical undergraduate curriculum.
Responsibilities:- Administration, delivery and evaluation of high‑quality Acute Medicine teaching to students.
- Completion of students’ Supervised Learning Events assessments.
- Identify and troubleshoot areas for improvement based on student feedback.
- Facilitate mock examination stations for students.
- Participate in student examinations and OSCEs across all year groups and sites.
- Mentor and guide students keen to pursue Acute Medicine.
- Network with peers to exchange ideas and best practice.
- Initiate new student projects as demand and capacity allow.
- Ensure sustainability of changes beyond the duration of the post.
- Provide clinical duties in Acute Medicine at a registrar level, including Same Day Emergency Care and the Enhanced Care Unit, with duties scaled to the post holder’s level of experience.
- Full MRCP qualification.
- Registrar‑level clinical experience in Acute Medicine.
- Interest or prior experience in medical education.
- Strong organisational, collaborative and innovative abilities.
The post allows application for an honorary contract with UCL Medical School. The post holder will be invited to participate in UCL ‘Introduction of Clinical Teaching’ course and encouraged to study for a postgraduate certification in Medical Education. The post holder will be supported to build a teaching portfolio and pursue accreditation through the Higher Education Academy.
