Due to an internal promotion, we are recruiting for a Head of Faculty to lead our Science and Public Sector Services team. This role is an exciting opportunity for an established middle leader looking for their next challenge in an environment where the learner is truly at the heart of all that we do.
The Head of Faculty plays a crucial role leading and managing the department to ensure the delivery of high‑quality education. This includes overseeing the development and implementation of the curriculum, ensuring it meets the specific needs of learners, employers, and local communities. The role collaborates closely with curriculum colleagues to design effective teaching strategies, create engaging learning materials and continuously assess the curriculum’s effectiveness.
In addition to managing the curriculum, the Head of Faculty supports and develops their team. This involves people‑focused activities from recruitment to retirement, providing professional development opportunities, mentoring staff, offering guidance on pedagogical issues and fostering a collaborative and supportive departmental culture. They also manage departmental resources and budgets, ensuring the faculty has the necessary resources to deliver effective teaching and learning.
The Head of Faculty acts as a key liaison between the department and the wider college community. They represent the faculty in meetings with other leaders and governors, contribute to whole‑college initiatives and collaborate with other departments to support cross‑curricular projects. By engaging with parents, carers, learners and external stakeholders, the Head of Faculty ensures department achievements are recognised and potential issues are addressed promptly.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Science and Public Sector Services department, ensuring high‑quality education delivery.
- Oversee curriculum development and implementation, aligning with learner, employer and community needs.
- Support and develop staff through recruitment, mentoring, professional development and resource management.
- Represent the department within the college and external communities, contributing to whole‑college initiatives.
Qualifications:
Internal candidates with established middle‑leadership experience and a passion for academic excellence. A thorough understanding of curriculum design, staff development and resource management within an educational setting is essential.
