Are you ready to ignite a passion for science and support hands‑on learning in a further education environment? As a Science Technician, you will work at the heart of our science department, helping to deliver exciting practical lessons using state‑of‑the‑art facilities.
What is the role?
- You will be an essential part of the science department as you support biology, chemistry, physics, and other practical lessons from GCSE level all the way through to higher education.
- The role is filled with a host of varied jobs and responsibilities which require specialist knowledge to ensure practicals run smoothly. (Training will be provided where necessary.)
Your day‑to‑day
- The preparation, delivery, and reuse of practical apparatus and reagents for everything from microscopes to magnesium.
- Keeping track of stocks of chemicals and apparatus using a modernised digital system.
- Assisting teachers, students, and your fellow technicians in their understanding of health and safety in the labs.
- Maintaining apparatus and stocks in labs to allow their efficient and safe running.
- Speaking with staff and students to design engaging and insightful practicals.
- Helping students in their learning through demonstrations and classroom practical assistance.
What We Are Looking For
- GCSEs (A*- C/9‑4) or equivalent in Maths, English, and Science.
- An enthusiasm for science with a strong technical ability and an interest in hands‑on practical work.
- Familiarity with health and safety procedures, particularly in lab environments.
- A team player with a love of learning and helping others discover the wonders of science.
