About the role
In your role as Associate Asset Manager, you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset.
This role will provide a great opportunity to support PCAI asset management activities across the private credit portfolio, with a focus on direct credit loans and portfolios.
Key responsibilities include onboarding, lifecycle event management, portfolio monitoring, relationship management, operational oversight, and helping to deliver strategic objectives.
You will also provide regular updates to internal committees and represent USS on our credit committees.
The role requires strong collaboration with the PCAI Asset Management and investment teams, PMG, internal USS stakeholders, and a range of external partners.
What you will be doing
As a trusted part of the Private Markets, you will:
- Lead asset management for allocated private credit investments, developing and delivering Asset Management Plans to maximise value
- Monitor asset performance, manage risks, ensure covenant compliance and oversee lifecycle events, negotiations, and amendments
- Define operating models, credit oversight requirements, and onboarding processes for new investments
- Manage relationships with borrowers, co-investors, advisors, and key stakeholders, ensuring USS objectives are met
- Oversee portfolio oversight processes, including macro risk reviews, ESG and governance compliance, and performance against investment cases
- Drive continuous improvement in asset management processes, governance, and reporting
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to asset management committee discussions

To be successful in the role, you will have:
- Proven track record in asset management of private credit investments, including relationship management, credit analysis, risk management and portfolio oversight
- Experience working with deal teams on onboarding and lifecycle management of private credit investments
- Knowledge of asset management operating models and LMA standard or credit legal documents
- Skills in influencing senior stakeholders and implementing asset management policies and procedures
- Background in portfolio monitoring within GP, pension fund, bank, asset/fund manager, or relevant consultancy/advisory roles
- Experience in lending markets, infrastructure, renewables project finance or long-duration inflation-linked credit
