Experimental Quantum Physicist with experience calibrating, characterising, and operating experiments for quantum technologies.

- What You’ll Accomplish
- Apply previous experience in experimental quantum technologies to operate ion-trap quantum computing hardware.
- Develop quantum control protocols for ion shuttling and quantum gates.
- Perform calibration, optimisation, and characterisation procedures on quantum computing hardware.
- Develop theoretical models and simulations to compare experimental measurements with predicted quantum dynamics.
- Work with a multidisciplinary and experienced team of Software Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Physicists and Quantum Engineers.
- Assist in developing new concepts and develop new technologies for future products.
Requirements
The most critical attributes we’ll use to compare candidates
• Strong experimental AMO physics experience
Especially in laser cooling and trapping, and/or quantum control experiments using ion-trap or neutral-atom platforms.
• Proven ability to design, build, and improve experiments
Demonstrated through a strong publication record and/or hands-on experience developing complex experimental systems.
• Strong modelling and simulation skills
Experience using simulations and theoretical models to guide experiments, interpret results, and optimise system performance.
- Must-have
- Ph D in AMO physics or a closely related field; postdoctoral experience is highly desirable.
- 5+ years of degree-inclusive experience in calibrating, characterising, and operating experiments for quantum technologies.
- Experience leading a relevant project in quantum measurement, quantum control, or experimental quantum systems.
- Strong hands-on and problem-solving skills across laser systems, optics, microwave and RF control, and high-precision imaging systems.
- Collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively across physics and engineering teams to solve complex technical problems.
- Nice-to-have
- Familiarity with surface ion traps and their operation.
- Experience with Ytterbium or Barium ion-qubit systems.
- Strong Python programming skills, ideally applied to experimental control, data analysis, simulation, or automation.
