Universal Partners is a high-performance foreign exchange and international payments business, supporting medium and large organisations with currency risk management, global payments and treasury solutions. As we continue to scale internationally, we are building a team of ambitious, driven people who want a genuine long-term career in financial services and corporate sales.
The Portfolio Manager is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of corporate clients from the ground up, combining business development, relationship management and strategic client engagement. This is a genuine 360 role: you will originate your own new business through outbound activity, convert it, and then manage and grow those relationships for the long term. It is not a handed-to-you book β you build your own portfolio from the ground up, working directly with business owners, CFOs and senior decision-makers across a wide range of industries to help them manage international payments and foreign exchange exposure through tailored risk management solutions.
This is a role for someone who wants genuine progression, accountability and the opportunity to materially change their career trajectory over the coming years, supported by ongoing mentorship, structured training and direct access to the leadership team building the sales floor.
Full training is provided on FX, the product and the market β we are looking for sales ability, not existing sector knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Development and Pipeline Generation
- Sourcing and originating your own new clients through sustained outbound activity, including cold outreach.
- Researching and identifying potential corporate clients across a range of sectors.
- Building and maintaining a pipeline of qualified opportunities.
- Speaking directly with senior decision-makers through outbound business development activity.
2. Client Engagement and Relationship Management
- Understanding clients' international trading activity, operational challenges and currency exposure.
- Educating prospective clients on Universal Partners' solutions and value proposition.
- Working alongside strategists, dealers and senior management to build tailored risk management solutions.
- Developing trusted long-term relationships with clients to retain and grow your portfolio.
3. Professional Standards and Compliance
- Maintaining high standards of professionalism, organisation and communication throughout the sales process.
- Contributing positively to the culture, standards and performance of the wider business.
- Working in line with all compliance, regulatory and conduct expectations applicable to the role.
- A proven track record in B2B or field sales, generating your own business rather than managing an inherited book β for example recruitment consultancy, B2B broking (insurance, property, corporate travel or fleet), SaaS or technology sales, pharmaceutical or medical device sales, estate agency, premium or luxury sales, or financial advice.
- Specific, evidenced new business numbers, or a self-built client book (for example, personal trainers who have built and sold their own client base).
- Background outside FX
- No current experience in FX or currency brokerage. The role is built around developing a transferable, from-scratch skill set, and full training on the market and product is provided.
Comfortable operating a full 360 sales process β originating, converting and managing relationships end to end β rather than specialising in only one part of it.
Character and resilience
- Hunger and humility in equal measure: genuinely ambitious, but able to take direction and feedback without ego. Able to speak honestly about a past setback and what was learned from it, and to demonstrate resilience under sustained rejection.
- A sporting, competitive or similarly disciplined background (team sport, individual sport, ex-military) β often a good indicator of this mindset, though not a requirement.
Communication
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage business owners, CFOs and senior decision-makers directly.
- Experience presenting to or negotiating with senior stakeholders.
- Professionalism
- Discipline and professionalism, with high standards of organisation and communication, a team-oriented approach, and the ability to work effectively without constant supervision.
Compliance
- Willingness and ability to work in line with all compliance, regulatory and conduct expectations applicable to the role.
- Awareness of the obligations of an authorised Payment Institution.
Key Relationships
Internal: senior management, dealers and strategists, and your direct leader (Partner or Associate Director).
External: corporate clients, including business owners, CFOs and senior decision-makers across a wide range of industries.
