The A Side: A Day in the Life

Universal Music Group is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Commercial Projects Trainee to support the Commercial Projects team within the Commercial Affairs division. This team operates at the intersection of digital curation, physical product strategy, marketing, and brand management, driving commercial success across both physical and digital platforms. In this role, you’ll coordinate a wide range of projects—from managing vinyl and CD campaigns to curating playlists, supporting brand communications, and liaising with international teams on thematic campaigns and analytical reporting. You’ll need to be an adaptable multitasker who can balance operational efficiency with creative problem-solving, and a natural collaborator who thrives in a fast-paced, music-led environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Physical Campaigns
    • Create and maintain vinyl and CD price campaign sheets.
    • Create campaign themes and explore commercially viable products to sell across retail & e-commerce.
    • Manage approval workflows and determine pricing for new campaign titles.
    • Run and analyse sales data for physical campaigns.
    • Track canvass responses across markets, ensuring timely and complete feedback.
    • Draft and send internal marketing notes for campaigns including product info and assets.
  • Digital & Curation
    • Quality check compilation products in coordination with the delivery team.
    • Curate and maintain a portfolio of hero playlist products and pitch new playlist and brand concepts.
    • Collaborate with designers to maintain playlist artwork and deliver monthly Spotify ad asset suites.
    • Coordinate with social media freelancers to ensure regular, relevant content posting, and manage the creation of social ad assets.
    • Manage the track priority process across labels, ensuring clear communication and feedback on placements.
  • Brands
    • Manage social media channels across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, Discord.
    • Manage marketing budgets across labels & markets, coordinating invoices, and measure final performance.
    • Liaise with markets and support operational processes such as scheduling releases.
    • Build CRM mailers and support digital communication strategies.
    • Onboard digital creators to our internal database, and utilize across campaigns.

    • Support the coordination of commercial projects across multiple teams, helping to keep campaigns on track and delivered on time.
    • Learn how physical music campaigns are planned and executed, including vinyl and CD promotions across retail and e-commerce channels.
    • Assist with campaign planning, product set‑up and approval processes, developing an understanding of how commercial opportunities are brought to market.
    • Help maintain campaign schedules, project trackers and key documentation to ensure visibility across the team.
    • Gain exposure to budget tracking, reporting and operational processes that support commercial activity.
    • Learn how to balance multiple priorities and projects in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining excellent attention to detail.
  • Be Analytical
    • Support the analysis of sales, campaign and market performance data.
