The A Side: A Day in The Life. UMG’s Global Insight team manages the most powerful and effective data sets and research capabilities in the music industry. As well as utilising sales, commercial/partner data, and social media analytics, the Global Insight team manages extensive consumer data from around the world, delivering unique detail into evolving attitudes and behaviours of today’s music consumers. The Consumer Insight team (part of Global Insights department) leads strategic insights and research for Universal Music Group’s esteemed record labels and business units, supporting digital, commercial, and A&R label teams. Global Insight is a 20+ staff team, with presence in London, New York and Los Angeles. We are looking for a proactive, enthusiastic, and confident Data Analysis intern to join a successful team of dedicated and passionate analysts & researchers. This role is based in London reporting directly to the Director, Data Analytics.

The B Side: Skills & Experience. We’re hiring an experienced Analytics Manager to join Global Insight with a focus on Africa, the Middle East & Asia (AMEA). The ideal candidate will turn complex, multi-market data into clear recommendations that grow repertoire and market share - pinpointing where our global catalog can travel (and why), surfacing new local scenes poised to break, and bringing those opportunities to life for senior stakeholders.

  • In this role, you’ll lead high-impact analyses that size and quantify opportunity: assessing audience reach and commercial upside by market, diagnosing competitive dynamics, and shaping simple, evidence-led cases for action – whether that’s exporting priority titles, backing an emerging scene, or supporting market-entry and partnership theses.
  • We’re looking for a self-motivated, collaborative thinker with a global, inquisitive mindset and crisp storytelling skills – equally comfortable exploring new cultural movements and advising leaders on where to play next.
Be Analytical
  • Work closely with the Global Insight Directors in running strategic analysis that informs A&R, commercial and digital strategies for UMG across the AMEA region.
  • Partner with central executives and local market MD’s to translate business questions into analytical approaches and insight outputs, aligning data insights with business objectives.
  • Lead end-to-end analytics projects, from data exploration and analysis, through to insight delivery and storytelling.
  • Create visualisations and storytelling presentations that clearly communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Interpret unstructured data to develop meaningful narratives, that inspire strategic decision-making.
  • Address challenges of working with incomplete or fragmented data by finding creative ways to fill gaps.
  • Explore new datasets, tools, and techniques to keep UMG at the forefront of data-driven innovation.
  • Build and maintain dashboards, reports, and analytical tools to provide ongoing insight into market dynamics and industry-wide activity.
Be Collaborative
  • Work closely with the Data/Analytics teams in NY, LA and London, ensuring you are up-to-date and involved with the data analysis initiatives developed across the business.
  • Identify opportunities to develop analysis, providing proactive suggestions and innovating on an ongoing basis.
  • Work closely with data engineers and scientists to improve data quality and develop predictive models.
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience (4+ years) in analytics, insight, or data science roles, ideally within media, entertainment, or consumer industries.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to multi-task within a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Be able to prioritise, work to tight deadlines and have a strong sense of initiative.
  • Advanced Excel and strong data visualisation skills (Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or equivalent).
  • Experience working with large datasets from diverse sources (e.g., streaming, sales, and social media).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to distil complex data into clear narratives.
  • Understanding of how the industry operates, including streaming platforms, audience trends, and revenue models.
  • Solid experience with SQL for data querying and manipulation.
  • Familiarity with Python or R for basic data analysis and automation (desirable).
Personal Specification
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Passionate about data, music, and storytelling through insight.
  • Naturally curious and inquisitive with a can-do attitude.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisation skills.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently when required.
