Overview of Position - Psych Nurse (RN)
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse to join our healthcare team at Canyon Creek Behavioral Health located in Temple, TX. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of mental health practices and be committed to providing high-quality care to patients. This role involves working closely with individuals experiencing psychiatric disorders, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being while promoting recovery and rehabilitation. We are currently seeking qualified professionals with active/clear license in the state of Texas. Previous experience in a psychiatric facility or rehabilitation program is highly preferred.
Compensation & Shift
- Sign-on Bonus: $7,500 with commitment
- Shift: Nights - 6:30pm - 7:00am (rotating weekends)
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' mental health status and needs.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Administer medications and monitor patient responses to treatment.
- Provide therapeutic interventions, including crisis intervention and supportive counseling.
- Perform physical examinations and vital signs monitoring as required.
- Engage in patient education regarding mental health conditions and treatment options.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic patient care.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills in psychiatric nursing.
Skills
- Proficiency in medical terminology for medical documentation is preferred.
- Experience with behavioral health patients is preferred.
- Knowledge of patient care principles for adult psychiatric patients is beneficial.
- Familiarity with older adult care practices is advantageous.
- Experience working with children in a psychiatric setting is highly desirable.
- Competence in taking vital signs accurately.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Strong critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills.
Qualifications
- Education: Required: Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing; Preferred: Bachelor's Degree.
- Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience preferred; minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a psychiatric health-care facility preferred.
- Licensure: Currently licensed to practice by the Texas State Board of Nursing.
- Additional Requirements: CPR certification and training in appropriate use of Seclusion and Restraint within 30 days of employment. Successful completion of Handle with Care training and Service Excellence Training within 30 days of employment. Certifications may be obtained during new hire orientation.
