Position Summary
The Medical Scribe functions as an integral member of the health information management team by transcribing all medical records and patient information, within the standards set up by the department and the facility.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Graduate/GED
- Experience: 1-3 years preferred
- Ability to work closely with facility and medical staff
- Good communication skills
- Excellent organisational skills
- Minimum typing speed of 60 wpm
- Thorough knowledge of transcription devices, techniques and procedures
- Complete knowledge of medical terminology
- Advanced knowledge of computer and various software packages
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Organise and prioritise transcription requests to meet established deadlines
- Maintain a transcription log consisting of patient’s name, medical record number, attending licensed practitioner, person dictating, type of report, date of dictation and date of transcription
- Reproduce all transcribed reports as requested and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures
- Distribute all in-house patient reports to appropriate units
- Distribute all reports on discharged patients to the Health Information Technician for filing
- Assemble and review all discharge medical records
- Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures
- Ability to see well enough to read handwritten and typewritten material
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. to move/transfer file boxes, data processing paper
