For Universal United Kingdom Resort (UUKR), act as UDX’s client-side engineering lead for assigned facilities and infrastructure on the Universal United Kingdom Resort project, from design development through construction, commissioning and operational handover. Represent the client’s interests, establish technical and operational requirements, and provide assurance that designers, contractors and specialist suppliers deliver against the agreed scope, quality, cost and programme. Oversee mechanical, electrical and public health services, coordinating structural and specialist interfaces as required.
The role requires substantial technical expertise in Building Management Systems (BMS) and Fire Alarm Systems (FAS) to challenge proposals, assess technical risks and evaluate evidence of performance. Work with project delivery teams, designers, contractors, ride and show suppliers and Technical Services to secure safe, reliable and maintainable facilities. Lead client technical reviews and recommend acceptance against agreed criteria, while designers, contractors and systems integrators retain responsibility for their design, installation.
Substantial relevant engineering experience, normally at least seven years, including at least five years managing the design, installation or commissioning of building services on complex construction projects, or equivalent demonstrable experience. Experience representing a client, developer or asset owner, or providing equivalent independent technical assurance, is essential.
Demonstrable technical depth in both BMS and FAS, with the ability to challenge designs, interrogate fault investigations and evaluate commissioning and integration evidence. Able to distinguish client assurance and acceptance responsibilities from the design and delivery obligations of consultants and contractors.
Experience overseeing multiple consultants and contractors and managing interfaces between building services, infrastructure, life safety systems and operational teams. Able to interpret drawings, specifications, schematics, calculations, controls documentation and cause and effect matrices, and secure resolution through the responsible parties.
Working knowledge of applicable UK Building Regulations and Approved Documents, CDM 2015, BS 7671, relevant BS EN 54 standards, and BS 5839-1:2025. Familiarity with relevant CIBSE guidance, BSRIA commissioning guidance and associated fire interface standards where applicable. Able to establish the editions and amendments applicable to each project package.
Experience reviewing technical submittals, requests for information, quality records and commissioning programmes on behalf of a client. Able to assess technical risks, budget and programme implications, procurement proposals and changes, and make clear recommendations within delegated authority.
Clear written, verbal and presentation skills; sound judgement; and the ability to resolve competing technical and commercial demands. Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using digital drawing, model review and document management platforms.
Qualifications: Degree in building services, electrical, mechanical, controls or a related engineering discipline, or an HNC/HND, apprenticeship or equivalent qualification supported by substantial relevant experience. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or progress towards registration through a relevant institution such as CIBSE or the IET, is desirable. Relevant BMS manufacturer training, Fire Industry Association qualifications or equivalent fire alarm training are also desirable.
Desirable experience includes delivery of theme parks, attractions, leisure, hospitality or similarly complex public buildings; integration with specialist ride and show systems; and experience of campus wide BMS and networked FAS deployments. Experience of UK construction contracts, including JCT design and build or NEC forms, BIM coordination, Soft Landings and post occupancy performance optimisation.
