Universal Container Services Ltd is the UK's premier provider of new and used shipping containers, site offices, and welfare units, serving both trade customers and the general public. Based in the North West of England, the company draws on over two decades of industry experience to deliver container storage solutions, tailored conversions, and ongoing maintenance services. Its extensive range of ISO-compliant containers is used for standard storage and transport, as well as customized applications such as offices, canteens, changing rooms, equipment stores, and clubhouses. Universal Container Services works with organizations of all sizes, from individuals to major shipping lines, offering bespoke solutions designed around each customer's needs. The company prides itself on high-quality products, skilled staff, and comprehensive after-sales support.
About the role
Universal Container Services sells shipping containers, conversions, and parts & accessories across our website, Amazon, and eBay. This is a broad, hands-on marketing execution role, supporting our ecommerce channels, running our organic social presence, building out email marketing, and helping keep our CRM data clean and useful. The Head of Marketing is hands-on and closely involved in strategy and direction; this role is about executing well across several channels, not owning any one of them in isolation.
Our eBay presence already includes an active, working Promoted Listings advertising campaign, and you'll be taking on genuine, ongoing management of this from day one, not starting from scratch. Amazon advertising, by contrast, is a genuine blank slate we'd build together over time.
What you'll actually be doing
- Managing our existing eBay Promoted Listings campaign (currently active across most of our 700+ listings), monitoring performance, resolving issues, and optimising spend
- Owning listing and catalogue quality across Amazon, eBay, and our website: imagery, titles, descriptions, and category accuracy, with real ongoing attention rather than a one-off cleanup (this is currently a significant, active workload)
- Proactively identifying missed sales opportunities: underperforming listings, gaps in promotions, categories that need attention, rather than only reacting to what's flagged
- Helping us build a genuine measurement framework where one doesn't really exist yet: customer acquisition cost (CAC), average order value (AOV), conversion rate, ROAS, and repeat purchase rate, with a real eye on margin, not just top-line sales, since shipping and marketplace fees can make a healthy-looking ROAS mask a much thinner real return
- Protecting our marketplace account health: delivery performance, cancellation rate, and seller ratings, since these directly affect visibility and can risk account penalties if let slip
- QA'ing listings, site updates, and campaigns to a genuinely good standard, catching and fixing issues (like a flagged, underperforming ad campaign) rather than just building new things
- Taking ownership of our organic social channels (currently run informally), planning, posting, and engaging consistently
- Building out email marketing as a proper in-house channel: campaigns, automations, and performance reporting
- Supporting HubSpot CRM administration and data hygiene where needed
- Creating content to support listings, social, and email, comfortable writing good copy and willing to get genuinely hands-on with simple creative (infographics, banners, product imagery); you don't need to already be a Canva or Adobe Creative Suite expert, but you do need to be willing to learn and get stuck in, since this is a real, ongoing part of the role, not an occasional extra
Amazon advertising is genuinely untouched territory for us, and we'd rather build this together over time than expect ready-made expertise there.
This is a hands-on role rather than one leading a team or owning overall ecommerce strategy, you'll be executing and improving within a clear, supported direction, not running the function independently.
What we're looking for
We don't have all this measured properly yet: CAC, AOV, conversion rate, repeat purchase rate, so you'll genuinely be helping build that from scratch, not stepping into something that's already sorted. Someone who's already seen why these numbers matter somewhere else, and just gets on with tracking them here, will do much better than someone who needs it all laid out for them first.
You’ll be inheriting a real, live eBay ad campaign that's already making money, so we need at least a year's genuine hands-on experience with eBay, Amazon, or a similar marketplace/DTC platform, either a consumer DTC brand or a B2B/wholesale background works, since we sell to both. The specific platform matters less than the underlying instinct: targeting, bidding, knowing what a good listing looks like.
Beyond that, what matters most is that you get stuck in without being told to. There's no big team behind this role, so we need someone who spots what needs doing and does it, not someone waiting for a task list. We'll teach you the wider marketing side. HubSpot or other CRM experience is a bonus, not a requirement.
- Free on-site parking
- Hours: 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday
- Pension
- Real ownership and visible impact - your work directly moves the numbers
- Broad exposure across ecommerce, CRM, social, and email - genuinely good grounding for building a digital marketing career
