A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Design Engineer to join a growing SME engineering and manufacturing business at an exciting stage of its journey. This is a key hire within a small, collaborative team where your work will have a genuine impact. You'll take ownership of design activities, working across the full product lifecycle from initial concept through to manufacture, testing and continuous improvement.
Unlike larger organisations where roles can become siloed, this position offers the opportunity to be heavily involved in all aspects of the design process, working closely with production, suppliers and customers to develop practical, robust engineering solutions. For an ambitious Design Engineer, this role also offers genuine long-term progression, with the potential to build and lead a design function as the business continues to develop.
The Role
- Creating 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD software and Autodesk Fusion
- Designing and developing new products and improving existing designs
- Producing and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical documentation
- Ensuring designs meet strength, weight, safety and compliance requirements
- Working closely with production teams to resolve manufacturing challenges
- Supporting prototype builds, testing and product development activities
- Liaising with suppliers to specify materials and components
- Managing engineering changes and document revisions
- Contributing ideas that improve efficiency, manufacturability and product performance
About You
We're keen to speak with practical, hands-on Design Engineers who enjoy seeing their designs brought to life. You will ideally have:
- Experience as a Design Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer or similar
- Strong CAD experience, including Autodesk Fusion
- Knowledge of fabrication, welding, sheet metal or structural steel design
- The ability to create and interpret technical engineering drawings
- A practical approach to problem solving
- Experience working within a manufacturing environment
Desirable Experience
- Trailers, commercial vehicles, agricultural equipment, plant machinery or other fabricated products
- Vehicle regulations, standards or type approval knowledge
- FEA or design validation experience
- Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent Engineering qualification
The Person
The successful candidate will be a proactive and self-motivated individual who enjoys working within a close-knit team environment. You'll be someone who takes ownership, rolls your sleeves up when required and is happy working in a business where everyone contributes to the success of the wider team.
