Middlesbrough (with some travel to other sites)
Overview: We have an exciting opportunity for a newly created role as Packaging Support Lead, in Middlesbrough but also working at our other production facilities located in the North of England. The purpose of the role is to lead the site-based packaging activities, including container inspections, container washouts, packaging counts and transactional governance for packaging. The role is key in reducing packaging related expenses and supporting sales with container availability as well as ensuring a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
- ESHQ: Become competent in the inspection and testing procedure of various container types. Support with the development and implementation of a packaging washout schedule, including robust start up and shut down procedures. Report accidents, incidents and near misses to the relevant staff. Cooperate on all matters concerned with H&S, training, legislation, and the environment. Ensure good housekeeping practices are observed, and site standards are maintained including security. Manage and reduce risk using the various tools available e.g., Risk Assessments, Competence Development, Safety Critical Task Analysis, and support with driving any related actions. Report defects and breakdowns following the relevant company process and procedure.
- Cost Management: Take the lead on any site-based packaging improvement initiatives with the support of the continuous improvement lead. Complete regular packaging counts ensuring correct process is followed in relation to SAP transactions. Support with the preparation of CAPEX budgets with the container manager. Be involved with monthly Fleet Analysis Reviews with Finance, and review where further improvements can be implemented. Report on any improvement opportunities.
- Service Excellence: Support with inventory availability improvements and the communication of any risks and opportunities. Ensure clear communication of relevant KPIs, focused on container availability. Work collaboratively with the engineering department and the container manager to align inspection priorities to product demand. Proactively review the number of containers in engineering inspection and communicate risks for the following quarter. Liaise with the container manager and production on appropriate stock levels, assessing the impact on container turn times. Support investigations and resolutions where appropriate for customer complaints, QNs and shortages with robust corrective actions.
- People: Maintain excellent relationships with the operations and commercial teams. Support with the maintenance of updating process maps for all container and packaging processes, to provide clarity on container transactions when trained to do so. Be an effective team member of the wider site departments working cross functionally and sharing ideas and best practice around the business.

- Forklift license is ideal, although the company will put the successful candidate through training to obtain the relevant license.
