The opportunity Our mission in the Optimisation team is to enhance the performance of the Unity editor and engine to enable our creators to work efficiently and get the most from the hardware they target. We are looking for an experienced engineer to lead our enthusiastic, experienced and friendly team. Our performance improvements enable creators to develop more quickly, include more content, run on more devices and reduce energy usage. We are passionate about profiling, analysis and optimization of the Unity runtime and editor! You will be proactive in guiding the team and help them overcome any roadblocks along the way.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Establish the future roadmap with guidance from team developers and product management.
  • Coaching, mentoring and generally supporting team members personal development.
  • Profiling and analysing the Unity editor and engine to identify and guide performance improvements.
  • Collaborate with other developers at Unity to enhance the performance of systems owned by other teams, including helping to create or improve performance tests to catch future regressions.
  • Documenting the analysis and measured performance gains to demonstrate the success of both your work and that of the team.
  • Evangelising performance and supporting other teams working to produce efficient software.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience developing and shipping software products in C++ or C#.
  • A passion for producing high performance software and experience with profiling tools.
  • An understanding of common CPU and memory optimization techniques, including multithreading.
  • Experience as a technical team leader.
  • Good social and communication skills and an interest in developing a team.

You might also have:

  • Experience working in a distributed team environment.
  • Prior experience with the Unity engine or similar game engine.
  • Experience with AI tooling.

Base Salary Range: We determine the base salary range for this role based on your primary work location:

  • Zone A: £75,400 – £113,000 GBP gross
  • Zone B: £86,200 – £129,400 GBP gross

This range reflects the anticipated base salary for this position. Beyond base salary, this role may be eligible for equity awards and participation in our company incentive plans (such as annual discretionary bonuses or sales commissions). The final offer amount will depend on several factors, including geographic location and the candidate’s relevant experience, professional background, and skill set.
