The Health & Safety Engineer will be fully responsible for the management of the companies Health and Safety Integrated Management System (IMS) as a tool to enable high quality, safe, sustainable, and socially responsible delivery of the company’s objectives. Responsible for ensuring that statutory safety duties are met in line with legislation and our current accreditation to ISO 45001.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ownership of the Unity Power Ltd Integrated Management System as a LIVE H&S system, including updating to ensure compliance with latest statutory and regulatory requirements and industry best practise.
  • Drafting H&S Policy and Procedure documents.
  • Management of External Audit and Accreditation processes, including NSAR, ISO 45001 Certifications and UVDB; NERS and other industry accreditations.
  • Management of Internal Audits process, including performance of audits against company IMS requirements and relevant External Standards and administration of Non-Conformance process.
  • Advise Senior Management Team on compliance and conformance requirements and issues, including associated Risk Management strategies.
  • Lead the implementation of IMS processes and procedures across the wider team, driving continuous improvement through lessons learned and workforce engagement.
  • Conduct Health and Safety tours and site inspections.
  • Participating in Health and Safety Risk Assessments at a Corporate and Project-specific level and advising on delivery methodologies.
  • Evaluate Sub-Contractor and Supplier approval applications and audit Sub-Contractors and Suppliers for compliance against supply chain Health and Safety requirements.
  • Plan and lead Quarterly Safety Workshops to guarantee all UPL Employees fully understand the safety procedures they are required to follow, taking measures to make the information engaging and interesting.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of the HSE Management system and progress against HSE Performance Standards and will make recommendations for improvement as appropriate.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications Essential:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the processes and procedures required to build and maintain an Integrated Management System which is compliant with the internationally recognised ISO 9001; ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 standards and others.
  • 5+ Years of Health and Safety Management experience in an Engineering, Construction, Utilities, or other Build Environment sector.
  • Excellent experience of drafting Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills are necessary with the ability to develop relationships and maintain effective networks and be results-focused tempered with a team-centred approach.
  • HNC in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent.
  • Current qualification / knowledge of the CDM Regulations.
  • Minimum NEBOSH General Certificate, Construction Certificate or NVQ Level 3.
  • Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) desirable.
  • IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management.
  • Operational knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation associated with Project work.
  • Suitable relevant experience working as a H&S Professional in a Project context. This needs to include experience working within a highly regulated operational environment and managing contractors, with experience of Accident Investigation and Reporting.
