Role Purpose

The HR Manager will take responsibility for the day-to-day management and development of the HR and people function across the Group.

The role will provide practical support and guidance to managers and employees, ensuring that people matters are handled professionally, consistently and in line with employment legislation, company policies and values.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced operational business and will take a proactive approach to improving people processes, employee engagement and management standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide practical HR advice and support to managers and employees across the business.
  • Manage employee relations matters including conduct, capability, absence, grievances and disciplinary processes.
  • Support managers with probation reviews and performance management.
  • Manage and improve recruitment, onboarding and induction processes.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation.
  • Review, develop and implement HR policies and procedures.
  • Support attendance management, sickness absence and return-to-work processes.
  • Provide guidance on employment law and ensure the business remains compliant with current requirements.
  • Support managers in dealing with difficult or sensitive employee situations.
  • Coordinate employee training and development requirements with departmental managers.
  • Support succession planning and development of employees within the business.
  • Assist with employee engagement, communication and retention initiatives.
  • Ensure HR processes are applied fairly and consistently across all departments.
  • Monitor key HR information including absence, employee turnover, probation performance and recruitment.
  • Support organisational change, restructuring and business growth where required.
  • Work closely with senior management to identify and resolve people-related issues.
  • Promote professional behaviour, accountability and positive management practices throughout the business.

Person Specification The successful candidate should

  • Have previous experience in an HR Manager, HR Advisor or similar people-management role.
  • Have good working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Be confident managing disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance cases.
  • Be organised and able to manage several priorities at the same time.
  • Be approachable while also being confident enough to challenge poor management or inappropriate behaviour.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to deal with confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Be practical and commercially aware rather than relying solely on policy.
  • Be comfortable working within a growing business where processes are still developing.
  • Be capable of building strong working relationships with employees, managers and senior leadership.

Qualifications

A CIPD qualification would be desirable, although relevant practical HR experience will also be considered.
