Electrician Job Title: Electrician (Summer Refurbishment) Contract Duration: 6 Weeks (Summer Holiday Period) Hours: 8am/4pm - Monday to Friday Reporting To: Project Manager Job Purpose To support the school's summer refurbishment programme by carrying out electrical installation, alteration, testing, and maintenance works. The successful contractor will ensure all electrical work is completed safely, to a high standard, and in accordance with current regulations before the start of the new academic year. Key Responsibilities • Install new electrical wiring, containment, and accessories as part of classroom and building refurbishments. • Replace and upgrade lighting systems, including installation of energy-efficient LED lighting. • Install or relocate sockets, switches, fused connection units, and power supplies. • Carry out electrical alterations to support refurbishment of classrooms, offices, specialist teaching areas, and communal spaces. • Complete first and second fix electrical installations where required. • Install power supplies for IT equipment, interactive displays, and classroom technology. • Carry out fault finding and remedial repairs identified during refurbishment works. • Test completed installations and complete all required certification. • Assist with isolations and reinstatement of electrical supplies where necessary. • Work alongside other contractors to ensure refurbishment projects remain on schedule. • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment. • Ensure all work complies with BS 7671 (18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations), the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, and current Building Regulations. • Report progress and any unforeseen issues to the Site or Project Manager. Essential Qualifications and Experience • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent). • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification (BS 7671). • ECS Gold Card (or equivalent). • Experience in commercial electrical installations. • Experience carrying out refurbishment or fit-out projects. • Ability to work independently and interpret electrical drawings and specifications. • Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements. Health & Safety The contractor must: • Comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. • Follow site-specific risk assessments and method statements. • Wear appropriate PPE at all times. • Ensure tools, ladders, and electrical testing equipment are safe and calibrated where applicable. • Keep work areas tidy and free from hazards. • Report any accidents, defects, or unsafe conditions immediately. The successful candidate will ensure that all electrical installations are fully operational, compliant with current regulations, and completed in time for the school to reopen for the new academic year
