About Unity Advisory
Unity Advisory is a challenger advisory firm. Built for the AI-enabled world, we operate a lean, conflict-free, and client-centric model that embeds AI across all workstreams.
With no audit practice, we are free of audit-related conflicts, allowing us to focus entirely on delivering high-impact outcomes with agility and innovative, outcome-based commercial models. Our culture is highly collaborative and flat-structured, unconstrained by traditional partner P&L silos — pursuing the best outcomes for our clients.
The Role
We’re looking for a hands-on, technically strong Senior Manager – R&D Tax to join our fast-growing tax practice. This is a pivotal client-facing role for an experienced professional who can lead end-to-end delivery of R&D tax relief claims, shape strategic advice, and collaborate cross-functionally with finance, technology, and innovation stakeholders.
You’ll lead engagements across a dynamic portfolio of clients — from scaling tech firms to blue-chip enterprises — advising on R&D incentives, HMRC compliance, and broader innovation funding strategies. You’ll work closely with Partners to shape the firm’s go-to-market proposition in this space, leveraging AI and automation to improve claim efficiency, documentation and compliance.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and manage R&D tax claim engagements end-to-end – from qualification and data gathering through to report drafting and HMRC submission.
- Engage directly with senior finance, tax, and technical teams to identify qualifying activities and costs under the RDEC regime.
- Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and product leads to document and articulate technical narratives.
- Ensure compliance with HMRC guidance and anticipate legislative changes and industry trends.
- Develop and maintain strong, trust-based client relationships as a senior point of contact.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and technical input to junior team members.
- Partner with colleagues across tax, finance, and technology to shape an AI-enabled R&D delivery model.
- Contribute to business development, thought leadership, and go-to-market strategy.
- Deep technical knowledge and extensive practical experience of preparing UK R&D tax claims, ideally within a Big 4 or top-tier consulting firm.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and translate complex technical concepts into clear, defensible documentation.
- Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple claims and deadlines simultaneously.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with confidence advising CFOs, CTOs and Heads of Tax.
- Collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset with appetite to help scale a next-gen advisory business.
- ACA/CTA/ATT qualified or equivalent experience.
We offer a hybrid and highly flexible working environment, centred around outcomes and impact. As a Senior Manager at Unity Advisory, you’ll be empowered to take ownership, drive innovation, and shape the future of R&D tax advisory in a firm that values modernity over legacy.
