Role Purpose
The Light Caretaker role is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, secure, and well‑presented environment. This role includes light maintenance duties, routine inspections, and responsibility for end‑of‑day security procedures, including locking up the premises. Also offering cover for cleaning staff where needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilities Maintenance
- Carry out basic repair tasks
- Conduct routine inspections of the building to identify minor issues.
- Report any major maintenance concerns promptly for escalation.
- Ensure external areas such as pathways and entrances remain tidy and hazard‑free.
- Cleaning & Housekeeping
- Perform light cleaning tasks in communal areas (e.g., wiping surfaces, sanitising touchpoints).
- Ensure bins are emptied and waste is disposed of correctly.
- Maintain cleanliness of small outdoor areas where required.
- Security & Locking Up Duties
- Lock and secure the building at the end of the day, following agreed procedures.
- Check all rooms, toilets, and communal areas to ensure they are empty before locking.
- Switch off lights, close windows, and secure doors as required.
- Activate and test alarm systems in line with training and protocols.
- Ensure fire exits and access points are secured appropriately.
- Report any security concerns, damage, or unusual activity immediately to management.
- Health & Safety
- Conduct regular checks for hazards and ensure compliance with health & safety procedures.
- Ensure fire exits and walkways remain clear at all times.
- Support with routine safety checks such as testing emergency lighting where trained.
- General Support
- Assist with room setups, moving lightweight furniture or equipment.
- Support staff with general facilities‑related requests.
- Receive deliveries and distribute items where needed.
