Build and Shape a Growing Postgre SQL Estate
We're working with a technology business that develops warehouse management and automation software for customers across the logistics sector.
As part of a major platform modernisation programme, the organisation is continuing its move towards a
Postgre SQL-first architecture . While a number of Oracle databases remain within the estate, Postgre SQL is the strategic platform for future development and new deployments.
They're looking for a hands-on
Postgre SQL Database Administrator to take ownership of the Postgre SQL environment, support ongoing modernisation projects, and help influence the future direction of the database platform.
This isn't a role where you'll simply be maintaining existing systems.
Alongside support and optimisation work, you'll be involved in upgrades, migrations, architecture improvements and database standards across a growing estate.
- What You'll Be Doing
- Supporting and optimising existing Postgre SQL environments
- Delivering project and modernisation work across the wider database platform
Key responsibilities include
- Administration, monitoring and optimisation of Postgre SQL databases
- Performance tuning, troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Managing replication, high availability, backup and disaster recovery solutions
- Supporting database upgrades, patching and lifecycle management
- Contributing to Postgre SQL architecture, standards and best practices
- Providing day-to-day support for existing Oracle databases where required
- Maintaining database security, compliance and access controls
- Working closely with development, infrastructure and systems teams
- Supporting automation, monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives
What We're Looking For
We're keen to speak with DBAs whose strongest experience is within Postgre SQL.
You'll ideally have
- Strong Postgre SQL administration experience within production environments
- Experience with Postgre SQL replication, high availability and disaster recovery
- Excellent performance tuning and troubleshooting skills
- Experience supporting business-critical database platforms
- Strong understanding of backup and recovery strategies
- The confidence to make recommendations and contribute to architecture decisions
- Oracle Experience
You do not need to be an Oracle specialist.
- However, we're looking for someone who has enough Oracle experience to:
- Support and maintain existing Oracle environments
- Investigate issues when required
- Work within a mixed Oracle/Postgre SQL estate
- Support ongoing migration and modernisation activities
- Oracle to Postgre SQL migration projects
- AWS and/or Azure database platforms
- Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible
- CI/CD, automation and Dev Ops practices
- Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket or similar tools
- Oracle APEX exposure
What's On Offer?
- Opportunity to take ownership of a growing Postgre SQL platform
- Genuine mix of support, project and architecture work
- Involvement in an ongoing database modernisation programme
- Exposure to cloud, automation and Dev Ops technologies
- Flexible remote and hybrid working
- Opportunity to influence technical direction and standards
- Collaborative environment with long-term career development opportunities
Interested?
If you're a Postgre SQL DBA who enjoys combining operational support with platform improvement, architecture and migration work, we'd love to hear from you.
