About the Role: The Field Technician is a hands-on technical role within the Construction Field Operations team, working on a 24x7 rotating roster. This role is responsible for the preparation, installation, and maintenance of Opticomm's FTTP networks, including the IP core infrastructure. You will be responsible for delivering best-in-class services, supporting equipment preparation, builds, installation, and ongoing maintenance of Opticomm's hardware and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attending sites and restoring service faults promptly.
- Installing and maintaining services at residents’ premises and network infrastructure hubs.
- Participating in a 24/7 on-call rotating roster (typically one week per month, subject to resource availability).
- Augmenting existing FTTP networks to increase capacity or capability.
- Assisting with the construction and commissioning of Headend facilities.
- Managing the restoration of major network faults, often coordinating subcontractors.
- Conducting quality assurance checks on construction work carried out by subcontractors.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of field work methods and processes.
- Liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure expected service delivery outcomes.
- Supporting and complying with all Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
- Undertaking other duties or projects as directed by management.

Qualifications and Essential Experience:
- Certificate III or IV in Telecommunications.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Telecommunications or a related industry.
It is mandatory that the employee holds and maintains the following as active throughout their employment with the company:
- Open Cabling License with Fibre and Structured Cabling Certifications.
- Construction White Card.
- S-License / Connect-Disconnect Certification.
- First Aid Certificate II.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Specialist knowledge of cable and satellite services (desirable).
- MS Office and AutoCAD Viewer literate.
- Familiarity with Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements.
- Electrical systems.
- DC power fundamentals.
- RF – FTA / SAT.
- GPON Networks – Pit and Pipe / Fibre / Equipment and components.
- IP Networking.
- Logistics principles and inventory management.
