Do you have a passion for teaching and a background in horticulture or gardening? Are you interested in a role that brings these passions together? We have a unique and exciting opportunity at a school, to use your creativity in the role of Horticulture Tutor, teaching skills to children and adults diagnosed with autism.

In this autonomous role, you will lead the GARDENworks Enterprise, planning and delivering individual and group activities to the pupils and learners of the School and Adult Centre. You will also have responsibility for management of our on-site nursery and garden areas around the estate.

Responsibilities
  • Providing a safe caring and supportive environment for our autistic learners while they access our educational, vocational and life skills opportunities.
  • Working closely with our teaching and support staff, to plan, prepare and deliver 1:1 and group gardening sessions to pupils and learners whilst tracking progress against their learning objectives.
  • Delivering coaching sessions for our staff, to develop their horticultural knowledge and skillset, enabling them to support learners when undertaking horticultural activities.
  • Developing and managing the delivery of vocational qualifications.
  • Designing and promoting commercial opportunities for the GARDENworks Enterprise.
  • Fostering relationships with third parties to promote inclusion within the community and the third party use of GardenWorks facilities.
  • Assisting with the recruitment and hosting of volunteers.
  • Maintaining the garden areas across the estate and managing the replenishment of resources and equipment.
Qualifications
  • Vocational experience in horticulture and/or gardening role, with strong plant knowledge and identification skills.
  • Proven experience in a teaching/teaching assistant role or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and an understanding of working with individuals with special educational needs and disabilities would be an advantage.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Relevant knowledge of health and safety considerations and risk assessments.
  • A team player with good problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and on own initiative within specified guidelines or processes.
  • A driving licence and access to a vehicle or lift would be advised due to our remote location of our setting.
Preferred Skills
  • Relevant qualifications in first aid, manual handling and safeguarding would be desirable but are not essential.
Pay range and compensation package
  • Competitive salary with a performance related cash bonus scheme.
