We are seeking a skilled and reliable class 2 (cat C) multi drop driver to join our team, delivering to retail outlets across Scotland. The ideal candidate will be responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently to various locations. This role requires a strong commitment to safety and adherence to all traffic regulations while ensuring timely deliveries. Experience in commercial driving is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Operate lorries in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure it is in good working order.
- Load and unload goods, ensuring that all items are secured properly for transport.
- Maintain accurate delivery records and logs, including mileage and fuel consumption.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers regarding delivery schedules and any potential delays.
- Follow company policies and procedures for safe driving practices and vehicle maintenance.
- Provide excellent customer service during deliveries, addressing any concerns or questions from clients.
Skills
- Proven experience as a Delivery Driver or in a similar role within commercial driving.
- Strong knowledge of road safety regulations and best practices for safe driving.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Good communication skills for effective interaction with customers and team members.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating reliability and professionalism.
- A valid driver's licence appropriate for the vehicle class being operated is essential.
Typical day
As a Class 2 (Cat C) Multi-Drop Delivery Driver operating a rigid vehicle (typically 26-tonne) to deliver goods to multiple locations, often 5 to 10+ stops daily. The role requires loading/unloading pallets and cages using tail lifts and electric pallet trucks, frequent manual handling of goods, navigating tight spaces, ensuring excellent customer service, and managing time.
Starting time of 6:30, being flexible on working hours due to route and capacity constraints, customer demand, traffic conditions, vehicle capacity, and geographic routing optimization.
