The Director of Tocqueville is responsible for supporting the Major Gifts team and Resource Development Department with the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects and donors for United Way’s annual campaign and other fundraising initiatives giving $10,000 and more. The Director of Tocqueville manages a team of Major Gift Officers, works closely with committees of fundraising volunteers, and personally stewards a portfolio of select major donors. This person must have the ability to lead others and communicate with a diverse set of stakeholders in a professional manner. The successful candidate will be flexible, self-motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing team of fundraisers.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages creativity and innovation in fundraising strategies.
- Provide the highest level of service to United Way’s major donors through the continuous improvement of efficiency, accuracy, and responsiveness.
- Recruit, train, and support major donor volunteers and volunteer committees.
- Manage membership in Tocqueville Society including stewardship of and relationships with current members, and solicitation of new members.
- In collaboration with the finance and corporate relations departments, manage the donor database to maintain and ensure accuracy of information.
- Prospect for both new and existing donors with the capacity and/or propensity to increase their current level of giving.
- Work with other departments to achieve coordination of activities.
- Prepare required fundraising reports for volunteers and organizational leaders.
- Act as United Way representative at various corporate and community events.
- Support the Major Gifts team by assisting with correspondences, events, and day-to-day operations.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the community’s economic and social forces as they pertain to the stability and growth of the Major Gifts division.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to build and manage relationships with high-net worth individuals, families, and business leaders.
- Excellence in written and oral communications.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in database management utilization.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office.
Education:
A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is required, advance degree or credential in the field preferred.
Experience:
Five or more years of professional work experience, with experience in fundraising, development, or sales capacity. Major donor experience preferred. Two or more years of supervisory experience. Demonstrated skill in building relationships with board members, major donors, corporate executives, and community leaders.
Required:
Reliable transportation, proof of automobile insurance and valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions:
Normal office environment which involves some travel and occasional overtime.
