As Standardisation Technician you will be responsible for delivery of all your technical related activities within Engineering and potentially across the organisation. The role will include these responsibilities and accountabilities.

Responsibilities

  • To support in the delivery of standards and standard products to be utilised within the capital programme across our partner organisations.
  • To support in tracking benefits and other KPIs developed to assess Capital Delivery, Engineering and Commercial's (CECs) utilisation of standards and standard products performance and to evaluate engineering innovation programme delivery.
  • Working closely with the Standards Engineer to develop and maintain KPI dashboards, Standards Library and Standards Catalogue.
  • Working independently but in alignment with the Standards Engineer in maintaining strong relationships with other disciplines and internal clients (e.g. Standardisation Engineers, PEMs, Asset Managers, Area Delivery Managers etc).
  • You will act as one of the Standardisation team SharePoint editors and support in document control of our library of mandatory, advisory standards and standard products - ensuring all are audited at timely intervals and amended as appropriate reflecting new ways of working.
  • Ensuring that all activities undertaken are in accordance with Health and Safety Legislation and Accepted Practice.
  • Ensuring that all engineering outputs provided are in accordance with an appropriate Quality Management System e.g. checked and verified documents, drawings, specifications, and United Utilities' Company Standards.
  • Support in the development and maintenance of KPI dashboards.
  • Assist in managing the company-wide technical competency framework ensuring it is fit for purpose and applied with a consistent approach.
  • Providing technical consistency across UU.
  • Responsibility for raising the external profile of UU.
  • KPI feedback (TCQ) specific to project & program delivery.
  • KPI feedback specific to technical support from all internal client directorates.
  • KPI feedback from ESP specific to Standards support.
  • Metrics relating to the value added to projects through innovative designs & development of standards.
  • Performance reviews and related activities performed on time and in accordance with company procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Applicant should be educated to HNC or Degree level or have studied Science or engineering relevant subject at A level. It is a requirement to hold a relevant technical qualification HNC or higher.
  • Knowledge is required of the design and operation of water industry systems and/or processes together with a working knowledge of Company standards, procedures and technologies.
  • A working knowledge is also required of the interfaces between engineering disciplines.
  • The post holder will have experience and expertise in data gathering and analysis and in specifying and managing and sharing this data to inform decision making.
  • Experience of developing tools and techniques to share knowledge with relevant parties in a creative and cost effective way.
  • Experience of developing applications using Microsoft SharePoint 365.
  • Ability to build and maintain interactive dashboards using Microsoft tools e.g. Power BI.
  • Strong delivery focus, the ability to manage to deadlines and to demonstrate achievement of KPIs.
  • Awareness of the regulatory environment is important in meeting our objectives.
  • The post holder will also be able to communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences, concepts and ideas regarding the application of particular recommendations.
  • The post holder will have awareness of the operational environments, operator skill levels and operating cost implications of proposed solutions and recommendations.
  • The post holder will be aware of process and construction risk analysis techniques.
  • The post holder will be required to work on their own, and as a member of a team including liaison and co-ordination between disciplines.
  • The ability to write clearly, concisely and accurately to deliver & promote "best of breed" standards and designs.
  • Good communication skills are required in order to ensure relevant information is correctly passed.
