The Field Service Engineer role drives efficiency and reduces costs across United Utilities’ operations. Hands‑on duties include pump, mixer, valve and flow‑meter replacements, pipework and electrical actuator service, tank repairs and asset decommissioning. The role demands flexibility, independent working, confined‑space operation, capital and operational project participation and out‑of‑hours standby rota involvement.

Responsibilities

  • Implement efficient mechanical maintenance and installation service.
  • Analyse faults, rectify and ensure proper operation of mechanical systems‑based equipment.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and internal company policies.
  • Maintain required financial control of a pre‑defined budget.
  • Provide reliable, accurate and complete asset performance and repair information for entry into corporate systems.
  • Analyse and recommend solutions to recurring maintenance problems.

Qualifications

  • Time‑served apprentice or equivalent with NVQ Level 3 or higher.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Industry experience in mechanical or instrumentation maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and in confined spaces.
  • Willingness to diversify into specialised maintenance areas (e.g., chlorine gas systems).
  • Diagnostic, organisational, planning, communication and computer skills.

Compensation

Salary £38,462–£44,320. Onsite at Davyhulme Wastewater Treatment Works, Trafford Way, Urmston, Manchester M17 8DD.
