Job Purpose:

To deliver a variety of site maintenance and recovery activities on both operational and non-operational land including grounds maintenance, vegetation management and removal from assets, soft landscaping, arboriculture works, contractor management and other minor building maintenance in line with the maintenance plan for each site. To ensure the site standards are upheld on our Water and Wastewater Treatment works and other land owned by UU including non-asset and asset areas for the quality, performance and safety standards of the company.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Undertake grounds maintenance, vegetation management, soft landscaping, ad hoc works and activities on a variety of sites.
  • Carry out physically demanding tasks in a fast-changing outdoor environment with exposure to and in close proximity to environmental hazards and sewerage contamination.
  • Carry out recovery works on operational and non-operational land, this could include filter bed vegetation removal, Pontoon Works.
  • Operate and perform daily checks on a variety of powered and non-powered plant, tools and equipment including vehicles, trailers, ride on mowers, agricultural vehicles/equipment, large plant, robots and small handheld tools.
  • Record the work completed on a corporate system.
  • Carry out minor remedial work on non-assets (flags, fencing etc.), appropriate to the level of competence and training.
  • Contribute towards the training of new starters from the Youth Employment Program and employment agencies.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety requirements and to comply with regulations and internal company policies and GM specific risk assessments.
  • Identify any site standards improvements and winter work during the scheduled visits.
  • Liaise closely with site staff.
  • Application and handling of pesticides including invasive weed management.
  • Support the Team Leader in developing new works in line with partner requirements and ensuring the implementation of these works to timescale and budget whilst delivering to a high standard.
  • To support the Team Leader in liaising with other members of United Utilities to ensure an integrated approach to project implementation.
  • When appropriate, take ownership of task-based activities thus ensuring communication between line management and operatives is maintained.
  • To undertake reasonable tasks as instructed by your line manager.

Technical Skills & Experience:

  • Ability to demonstrate practical experience of a variety of maintenance activities including grounds maintenance, vegetation management and soft landscaping in an outdoor environment.
  • Able to demonstrate practical experience in using a variety of grounds and specialist machinery such as pedestrian mowers, strimmers, blowers, hedge cutters, ride on mowers, tractors, robots.
  • Ability to work to schedules and have good time management skills.
  • Able to communicate and build relationships with a range of both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to risk assess dynamically and understand risk assessments.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • Full clean driving license and hold or be willing to work towards Class C if required.
  • Ability to tow trailers and willingness to attend familiarisation training.
  • Hold or be willing to work towards if required qualifications to apply chemicals near water. (Formally PA6/PA6INJ/PA6W)
  • Hold or be willing to work towards if required NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Manually Fed Woodchipper Operations qualification.

A full UK driving licence is required for this role. This role may not be eligible for visa sponsorship.
