United Utilities is accountable for water and wastewater services in the North West of England. From 2025-2030 we will undertake the largest investment in water and wastewater services in the North West in 100 years - more than £13 billion worth of projects. We need inspiring future talent to help make the North West stronger, greener, and healthier. We are the UK’s largest corporate landowner with over 56,000Ha of land to manage for water quality, resilience, biodiversity and commercial value. Our apprentice programme provides first-class training aligned with our business areas so you can progress your career while contributing to the communities we serve.
Our apprentices are well looked after, with a generous salary, 26 days of leave (excluding bank holidays), a £500 contribution towards learning to drive, and many more benefits. You’ll have a dedicated mentor and manager to support you every step of the way. All we ask is that you’re willing to learn, work well as part of a team, and manage your time and workload effectively.
As a Level 6 Land Agent Apprentice, you’ll learn how to:
- Manage an estate in compliance with property law, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and that our estate is well maintained with accurate records.
- Ensure our land and buildings are safe for our employees, tenants and the public.
- Develop capital maintenance programs to protect long-term asset value.
- Ensure that our rent and rates are paid and collected on time.
- Deal with customer queries and drive issues through to resolution.
- Work with landowners and our legal teams to deliver our capital projects.
- Review and manage leases to protect United Utilities’ interests, protect raw water sources and maximize commercial opportunity.
- Identify opportunities on our land holdings and optimise these to develop long-term land management plans.
Your apprenticeship will last 72 months, and successful apprentices will achieve a Chartered Surveyor degree, endorsed by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Your study will be block release. If you’re not local to your place of study, accommodation will either be provided or re-imbursed by United Utilities during this period (excluding weekends). Please consider travel requirements and staying away from home if applicable.
We’re looking for someone keen to gain hands-on experience, develop practical skills, and achieve the standards needed to succeed in this role. You’ll need to have:
- 5 GCSEs or equivalent, grades A-C or 9-4, including Maths, English and a Science or Technology subject
- Plus a Level 3 qualification (A-levels, apprenticeship or BTEC, etc) totaling 112 UCAS points
- Full UK driving licence at time of application
- Computer literate; understanding of geographical information systems would be beneficial
- Awareness of the water industry and its regulators
- Understanding of agricultural regulations and practices
- Awareness of property law and an understanding of commercial property management practices and regulations
- Keen to gain hands-on experience, develop practical skills and achieve the qualifications needed to succeed in the role
- Willing to work as part of a team and ability to manage time and workload to get things done

- Core location: North West – a commutable core location will be agreed when the role is offered
